Omni-Heat heating pads under the ball of the foot can be set to three different temps with the push of an easy-access button; you get continuous heat for up to eight hours on the low setting, and three hours on the highest. This advanced (but highly logical) technology can't do the job on its own, however, which is why Columbia overbuilt the Bugathermo with a host of winter-fighting features.

The first pair I got was the black and orange ones. During that first winter they kept my feet warm and dry for hours out in the snow and cold. When season 2 came around, the batteries would not take a charge. I called Columbia support and they walked me through a couple of things to do. None of which resolved the issue. They told me to send them in and if it was something that could be fixed, that they would fix it. Otherwise they would send me a different pair. A week or two after I sent them in, I received a new pair of these, free of charge. I charged them and they worked great through the second year. Now with the winter coming fast, I had the opportunity to "test" them for this season and they are working great. We were outside in about 30 degree weather and I didn't even have to turn them on.
