These baskets are replicas of the Nantucket Lightship baskets, which were first produced in Nantucket during the whaling era of the 1800s.Most bicycle baskets are woven in a way you would make a decorative basket, one that you would use in your home as an accent piece. The problem with this is that this type of weave is not conducive to use in bicycle baskets, which serve a functional purpose and are used on a daily basis. Very tight weave, small-gauge and high-quality weavers and spokes in the wicker. The solid brass buckles and thick leather straps are sturdy and long enough to mount it on just about any bike.
