It's strong enough to stay stiff all day, and doesn't wear out like other gels. But it's not like concrete either. This one is by far the best for all hair types. it's no too gunky and hard, and it smells ok. It's not the best gel, but for the money it's a solid performer.It also has a suttle piney scent that isn't too overbearing. Which is good if you wear cologne, because too many scents can smell bad. What I don't like is that it will stay on a surface you rest your head. Such as a pillow or a head rest. The head rest in my car is stiff and scaley. I rest my head on there as I am driving and it just means I have to clean my head rest more often. Same for my pillows. They get waxy after a few weeks. So if you use this, definitely wash your pillowcases...
